In Patricia's work the abstract elements of painting - line and shape, form and space, texture, surface and colour - are rehearsed and refined using a subdued palette in oils, oil pastels, crayons and gold leaf. Her recent work has become more than painting and has developed into three dimensions - precious and delicate objects displayed in box frames.
Whilst being inspired by the sea and coastline, much of the work draws upon distillations of memories and experiences rather than specific locations. The process evolves as a memory of a contour, shape or texture which is put down. The mark made, a further response or recollection is called up, which is then recorded and edited until something finally feels authentic.
Patricia trained at Winchester School of Art in Fine Art, and has since taught at Esher College and Southampton City College. She now lives and works in Hampshire. Patricia's paintings have been exhibited since 1996 throughout the UK at galleries, festivals and art fairs and she has shown for many years with Shirley Crowther.
