Gill Parry

Creating ceramic pieces is an essential part of Gill's life; a need, questioning her abilities, confidence and way forward, the natural material linking her to the earth. She loves natural organic shapes with their symmetry and imperfections. Inspiration comes from a range of sources: shells, rock formations, tracks in the sand, cracks in pavements, peeling paint, textiles.

Gill uses a heavily grogged stoneware clay to produce a textured surface, painting a white slip on before the first firing. She mixes her own dry matt glazes which are applied and then refired, creating often unexpected interactions between clay, fire and glazes. The work is frost proof.

Gill trained under Geoff Doonan at Ilkley and Bradford College, then later at Westdene College and Eastbourne College of Art. She now lives in Sussex, and her work is exhibited in galleries in London and the South, as well as Festivals and 'Art in Clay' at Hatfield House.
